Rules & Regulations for Students

S.B. College, Ara is committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive, disciplined and academically enriching environment. All students are expected to comply with the rules and regulations of the College, Veer Kunwar Singh University and applicable statutory provisions.

1. Admission & Student Responsibility

• Students shall provide correct and complete information and documents at the time of admission and whenever required by the College.
• Students must carry their valid College Identity Card and produce it whenever required by authorized College officials.
• Students are expected to regularly check the College website, notice boards and official communication channels for academic and administrative notices.
• Students shall comply with the instructions issued by the Principal, teachers and authorized College authorities.

2. Attendance

• A minimum of 75% attendance is compulsory for students, subject to the applicable University regulations.
• Students are expected to attend classes regularly and punctually.
• Students with inadequate attendance may be restricted from appearing in University examinations or from availing themselves of academic benefits, as per applicable rules.
• Students should maintain regular attendance in lectures, practicals, tutorials, seminars and other prescribed academic activities.

3. Classes & Academic Conduct

• Students must attend classes on time and maintain academic discipline.
• Classroom discussions and academic activities should be conducted respectfully.
• Students are expected to complete assignments, presentations, projects and other academic work within the prescribed deadlines.
• Mobile phones and electronic devices should not be used in a manner that disturbs teaching-learning activities.
• Students are encouraged to participate actively in seminars, workshops, discussions, projects and other academic activities.

4. Internal Assessment & Test Examinations

• The College may conduct class tests, internal assessments, sessional examinations, assignments and other academic evaluations as prescribed by the University and the respective programme.
• Students must participate in all prescribed assessments.
• Internal assessment may take into account attendance, assignments, tests, presentations, practical work and other prescribed academic components, wherever applicable.
• Students must follow examination instructions and maintain academic integrity during all assessments.

5. University Examinations

• Students must fulfil the eligibility requirements prescribed by the University for appearing in University examinations.
• Examination forms, registration, fees and other required formalities must be completed within the prescribed deadlines.
• Students must strictly follow the examination rules issued by the University and examination authorities.
• Use of unfair means, impersonation, copying or any form of examination malpractice is strictly prohibited and will be dealt with under applicable rules.

6. Library

• Students may use the College Library subject to the prescribed library rules.
• A valid College Identity Card/library membership is required for borrowing books and accessing library facilities.
• Books and other library resources must be returned within the prescribed period.
• Students shall maintain silence and proper decorum in the Library.
• Damage, defacement, unauthorized removal or loss of library resources may attract appropriate action and recovery as per rules.
• Students are encouraged to make effective use of print and digital learning resources available through the College.

7. Use of Digital Resources & Technology

• Students are encouraged to use digital learning resources, e-learning platforms and ICT facilities for academic purposes.
• College internet, computers and other digital facilities must be used responsibly.
• Unauthorized access, misuse of institutional accounts, alteration of digital records or damage to digital infrastructure is prohibited.
• Students must maintain responsible digital behaviour and respect privacy, copyright and intellectual property rights.

8. Discipline & Code of Conduct

• Students must maintain discipline, courtesy and respectful behaviour within the campus.
• Any form of violence, intimidation, abusive behaviour, harassment, threats or disruption of academic activities is prohibited.
• Students must respect teachers, staff, fellow students and visitors to the College.
• Possession or use of prohibited substances, weapons or other items restricted under law or College regulations is not permitted on campus.
• Students must not damage College buildings, furniture, equipment, laboratories, library resources or other institutional property.
• Students are responsible for keeping the campus clean and using institutional facilities responsibly.

9. Anti-Ragging

• Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited.
• Any act of physical, verbal, psychological or online harassment of a student, particularly a newly admitted student, shall be dealt with under applicable University and statutory regulations.
• Students should immediately report any incident or concern relating to ragging to the designated College authority.

10. Equality, Dignity & Non-Discrimination

• The College is committed to providing a respectful and inclusive learning environment.
• Students shall not engage in discrimination, harassment or exclusion on the basis of caste, gender, religion, disability, language, region, economic background or any other protected ground.
• Every student is expected to respect the dignity, rights and diversity of other members of the College community.

11. Gender Sensitivity & Prevention of Harassment

• Students are expected to maintain respectful and appropriate behaviour towards all members of the College community.
• Any form of sexual harassment or gender-based harassment is prohibited.
• Complaints may be submitted to the appropriate College mechanism/committee established for addressing such matters.

12. Student Grievance Redressal

• Students may approach the designated College authority or appropriate grievance redressal mechanism for academic, administrative or other legitimate concerns.
• Students are encouraged to raise grievances through the prescribed procedure rather than disrupting academic or institutional activities.
• Complaints shall be handled in accordance with applicable rules and principles of fairness and confidentiality.

13. Games & Sports

• Students are encouraged to participate in sports and physical activities organized by the College.
• College teams may participate in University-level and other recognized competitions subject to selection and applicable rules.
• Participation in sports is encouraged as an important component of physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and holistic development.

14. Cultural, Literary & Co-curricular Activities

• Students are encouraged to participate in debates, essay writing, music, painting, literary activities, cultural programmes, seminars, competitions and other co-curricular activities.
• Participation should be consistent with the academic schedule and College rules.
• Students representing the College in University or external events must follow the instructions of the designated faculty/College authority.

15. NCC

• Students may participate in the NCC activities of the College, subject to the availability of the unit and applicable enrolment rules.
• NCC activities promote discipline, leadership, teamwork, civic responsibility and service.

16. NSS & Community Engagement

• Students are encouraged to participate in NSS and other community-engagement activities, subject to the availability and functioning of the respective units.
• Activities may include social service, environmental awareness, community outreach, health awareness and other approved extension programmes.
• Students are encouraged to contribute to society through responsible and constructive participation.

17. Scholarships & Financial Assistance

• Eligible students may avail themselves of scholarships, freeships and other financial assistance available under Government, University or institutional schemes.
• Students must submit applications and supporting documents within the prescribed deadlines.
• Scholarship benefits are subject to eligibility criteria, verification and the rules of the concerned scheme or authority.

18. Student Support & Academic Assistance

• Students requiring academic assistance may avail themselves of mentoring, remedial classes, guidance and other support programmes organized by the College, wherever available.
• Students are encouraged to seek timely academic guidance from teachers and designated support mechanisms.
• Students with specific learning or accessibility requirements may approach the appropriate College authority for available support.

19. Campus Cleanliness & Environmental Responsibility

• Students must use dustbins and help maintain a clean and hygienic campus.
• Damage to plants, gardens or other environmental resources is prohibited.
• Students are encouraged to participate in cleanliness, plantation, environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives of the College.

20. College Property

• Students must handle College furniture, laboratory equipment, ICT facilities, library resources and other institutional property with care.
• Any deliberate damage to institutional property may result in disciplinary action and recovery of the cost of damage, as per applicable rules.

21. Student Societies & Leadership

• Students are encouraged to participate in recognized College societies, clubs, committees and student-development activities.
• Activities conducted under student societies must have appropriate institutional approval wherever required.
• Students participating in institutional activities are expected to demonstrate leadership, teamwork, responsibility and respectful conduct.

22. Social Media & Public Communication

• Students should use social media responsibly and respectfully.
• Students must not falsely represent themselves as authorized spokespersons of the College.
• Use of the College name, logo, photographs or official material for unauthorized commercial, misleading or inappropriate purposes is prohibited.
• Students should respect the privacy and dignity of fellow students, teachers and staff while creating or sharing digital content.

23. Safety & Security

• Students must follow campus safety instructions and cooperate with security and authorized College personnel.
• Any suspicious activity, safety concern, damage or emergency should immediately be reported to the appropriate College authority.
• Emergency procedures and instructions issued by the College must be followed.

24. General Conduct

Students are expected to:

• attend classes regularly and punctually;
• maintain academic integrity;
• respect teachers, staff and fellow students;
• keep the campus clean and orderly;
• use College resources responsibly;
• follow University and College regulations;
• participate constructively in academic and institutional activities; and
• uphold the dignity and reputation of S.B. College, Ara.

Compliance

These Rules & Regulations are subject to the Acts, Statutes, Ordinances, Regulations and notifications of Veer Kunwar Singh University, Government of Bihar and other competent statutory authorities, as applicable from time to time. In case of any inconsistency, the applicable statutory/University provisions shall prevail.
